ORIGINALITY

“Nothing is original.
Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows.
Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul.
If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic.
Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent.
And don’t bother concealing your thievery - celebrate it if you feel like it.
In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from - it’s where you take them to."

 Jim Jarmush

just a quote I love
I think it's very relevant, especially for creative people.
For me it's good to have this quote on my desk or on the first page of my sketchbook and read it every now and then.

PROCRASTINATION

Procrastination is: doing everything BUT the thing you should do.

Procrastination kills your work, creativity, your mood and also social life.

TIPPS not to procrastinate:
- LOG OUT from social networks & co (in casi estremi meglio direttamente scollegare il wifi)
- have a easy list in front of you of the steps you need to follow (desktop's sticky notes are very useful!)
Dovere rendere conto a qualcun altro spesso ci aiuta a tenere saldi i nostri propositi.

HOW TO PITCH

- train your English !!!

COSA DIRE:
cose assolutamente da dire sono:

- il tuo nome/nome dello studio

- working title, format, durata, target audience, tema trattato.

ELEVATOR PITCHThe elevator pitch is a particolar kind of pitch, maybe the most important. It's a very short pitch and it's called like this because you have to imagine to meet your dream-producer in an elevator and to be ready to pitch your project amazingly in few seconds.

If you can't explain your project in a sentence (logline), you won't be able in an hour either.

30'
simple
memorable
convincing
short
focused

An elevator pitch is a concise and focused overview of your project.

the rule is LESS IS MORE!

- first of all: BE READY
You never know if you'll have a great chance to pitch your project to someone interesting, so have your pitch ready, your business cards too and maybe also a one-pager of the project.

- Tell them WHY you're worth investing in
- Identify the BENEFITS: why should they need your product.
- Then, identify your USP = unique selling proposition: why is your project unique.

- Leave space for conversation/questions/feedback
and LISTEN
- CONTACT: leave a business card, ask business card, propose to send more material with an email, leave one pager...
(see post: one pager)

don't confuse, tell just the most important things
avoid technical details

balance humility and enthusiasm

Know who you are talking to (see: who's your audience/costumer)

PRACTICE PRACTIVE PRACTIVE
writing, loud with friends and/or mirror

Take care of yourself
, especially the night before an important event/pitch
and even more if you had an hard travel.

Business Cards

Business cards (BC)

- BCs are crucial for your work and contacts!
If you don't have them, get them right now!

- They need to contain the most important info about you and some contacts, they need to be appealing and have a nice graphic - some white space is always good to write on them!!

- Festivals/conferences and other events are very good for BC.
You will need them and you will also collect a lot (sometimes too many).
It's important to write some notes on the BC you get from others, to remember who's this person.
FOLLOW UP:
Another good habit is, once you get home (or at the hotel), to get back to all the BCs you collected and re-order them, look for people's Linkedin/websites, maybe call them or write some emails. If you let time goes by, you will be more and  more less likely to do it or, in the worst scenario, you will completely forget about those persons (and viceversa).

See more about follow up in the dedicated post here

- It may sounds obvious, but:
have them with you, always.
Especially in the circumstances when you expect it the least, you may have the elevator pitch of your dreams (see the post: how to pitch)

- It's not expensive to have BCs.
Even if there are some very fancy BCs around, you can also easily get some decent BCs with few money and still looking good.
There're many online websites doing this. But you can also self-make them, if you have some good craft skills. (I did these BCs for my first film, just using a bad bw printer some glue and cardboard, and they even got some compliment/appreciation :O  http://puminrus.tumblr.com/post/132300026275/bc )

Some last notes:
I think businesscards' task is no (more) to give all the info people need, but rather to be eye-catching, cool, interesting, unforgettable, mysterius maybe.
There will be a e-mail adress and perhaps a link to your website on them, and this will be enough for all the real info searching.
The point is not really to inform, but to be remembered and catch the attention; the point is that you don't want the others to throw your BC away, once they get home. You want them to keep your BC. For one reason or another: maybe they're beautiful, useful, interesting, inspiring, unconventional...and your image will be linked to them!

To conclude, maybe for fun:
Some inspirational mood for non-conventional BC
